This little boy is Trenton Kercher. He’s from northern Indiana. His mom and dad, and big sisters, are living in a RV on the Hope City campground. Jeff and Linda are great folks. Jeff’s doing electrical work with Darren, and Linda’s helping out wherever she’s needed, in addition to homeschooling her kids. Last week she cooked for a team of college guys who had no cook with them. Today she took all three cooks shopping in her Suburban. She’s got a great sense of humor, and has brightened our week just by popping in to say ‘hi’.

Those college guys last week were grateful for her cooking–and they made a big impression on little Trenton. He followed them around and wanted to help. (He’s still hoping for a little brother, even though he’s an uncle to the children of his married adult sisters.) Linda told us how kind the guys were to Trent, how polite and patient with him. At the end of the week they pitched in and gave him a tee-shirt which they all signed. He was choked up when he saw it, and wore it to bed that night.

The day they left, Trenton told his mom he wanted to give them a tract. (A couple of the guys were rather obviously Christians…but the others were equally obviously not.) After a few minutes he came back, and said to his mom, “I’m sorry, Mom! I’m sorry!” He was crying. Linda asked him what was wrong. “I tried to tell them that they need Jesus, that He died for their sins and that they should ask Him to be their Savior. They listened, but they didn’t want to pray with me.”

Linda comforted her son with the missionary heart. “You planted seeds today, honey.” She shared the story with others. We heard it from several sources today. We blinked back tears, too, not just because Trenton is a great little boy who smiles and says hi every time he runs through the trailer. We smiled, thinking about the great opening he gave to those two believing friends…every time they talk about Trenton, they have a chance to talk about Jesus, too.

The Bucket Brigade

Here is our group going strong building the foundation that has to be 6 feet high. Any ‘new’ construction down here in the gulf has to be 6 feet off the ground for any possible storms that come up. Ella’s son Danny helped and the cement driver “Big Daddy” who I think is a relative of Shaquille O’Neil, but he says he’s not related. They were both a huge help to us because the buckets of ‘mudd’ were getting pretty heavy late in the day. The video shows us in one of the two crawl spaces for Ella Quin’s new house.
