Outside the walls

“Grampa Walks”

March 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I take walks with my grandson. Every time he sees water, we have to stop.

“Grampa, can I throw rocks? Please?”

“OK.  Just little ones now.”

“OK.  Wow!  that one went way out there!”

“Look at that design.  Circles, ripples…there they go!”

“How ’bout a BIG rock?  Can I throw a BIG one?  Pleeeease?”

“You don’t need to throw big rocks. The little ones are fun. They make pretty patterns, right?”

Sometimes we don’t think clearly of our real influence or “ripples” in some stranger’s life.  It doesn’t really take much, and it is fun to watch.  God’s designs are so perfect–all those circles, expanding outward in the water; God’s designs cause outward movement, stirring the water; no one knows what the ending or results will be…how far will those ripples go before they fade?

Is your heavenly Father asking you to perform a simple kindness, offer an encouraging word, or just to connect with another brother or sister in God’s creation?  We’re all His pebbles, skipping on the water of the world. When our actions for Him create perfect ripples, we make Him smile.   Go and do whatever you can, wherever you can…ripples can happen in an ocean or a mudpuddle.  In a confusing, hurting world, every pebble counts.
